We visited Cold Harbour Mill to learn more about the life and work of the Victorians.
As part of British Science Week, we have recycled some junk materials into musical instruments and learnt about how sounds is made.
We have been learning about micro-habitats and the mini-beasts that like to live in them. We used magnifying glasses to look closely before recording our observations.

The children used resources and the strategies they have been taught to solve a variety of multiplication and division problems in the form of activities and games.
Habitat Science in Butterflies Class
The children in Butterflies Class undertook some observations of micro habitats on the KS1 playground. Checking for mini beasts as they went!
Dragonflies animal print artwork
After looking at animal patterns last term, children were keen to investigate animal footprints this term. We started by identifying and sketching the shapes of different animals' footprints. Then we made salt dough and practised making our prints before designing our final footprint tile and creating this from clay. We used a range of tools in interesting ways to make patterns.
Dissecting flowers in Dragonflies
This term we have been learning all about plants. To get a greater understanding of the different parts, we have dissected the flowers and looked more closely at the individual parts with a magnifying glass. We looked closely at the pollen and discussed how it can get transferred between plants by bees.
Measuring in Dragonflies
We have been learning all about different types of measurement over the past week. Dragonflies have looked at the units of measurement and appropriate measuring tools for measuring weight, height/ length, temperature, time and capacity. We have experimented and designed our own investigations and questions and had lots of fun!
Year 4 Go Swimming at the Life Centre
This term, the children had three weeks of daily swimming lessons to improve their water confidence and swimming skills.

Dragonflies explore shapes
Have a look at the fun that we have been having with shapes! We have made shapes using a range of resources and discussed their properties using new vocabulary that we have been learning.
Butterflies learning to tell the time
This week in our Maths session the children learnt to tell the time to the hour and half past the hour and draw the hands on a clock face to show these times. Then we learnt how to read quarter past and quarter to the hour. Through the practical activities the children explored how to tell and write the time to five minutes, including quarter past/to the hour and draw the hands on a clock face to show these times.
3D Shape Sorting in Butterflies
The children were given hoops to make Venn diagrams with which to sort 3D shapes. They had to come up with their own properties to sort them by.
Christingle in Butterflies Class
The children made Christingles as part of their learning in the lead up to Christmas.
