Pupil Premium

What is Pupil premium?

At Laira  Green Primary School, we recognise that all pupils regardless of their background should have equal access to the curriculum, which will enable them to reach their full potential.

Pupil Premium is a Government initiative, which provides additional funding aimed at children from deprived backgrounds. Research clearly shows established links between deprivation and educational underachievement, with the grant enabling schools to support these children in overcoming any barriers they may have in successfully engaging with their education.

The Government have used pupils entitled to Free school meals as an indicator for deprivation and have deployed a fixed amount of money to schools per pupil, based on the number of pupils eligible for Free school meals. Looked after children and those of Armed Service Personnel are also eligible for this increased funding.

The Pupil Premium is provided in order to support these children to reach their full potential by accelerating their progress and providing them with experiences which may not normally be available to them.

It is for the school to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent. Each school is responsible for monitoring both the use of the funding and the impact it is having upon relevant pupils. Measures are included in the performance tables that will capture the achievement of the pupils receiving Pupil Premium funding.

Through targeted interventions we are working to eliminate barriers to learning and progress. Our aim continues to be to close the gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. We are determined to achieve high levels of Good Level of Development at the end of EYFS, in the Year 1 Phonic Screening Check, at the end of Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

Our Pupil Premium Governor is Colin Bunney and our Inclusion Leader Mrs Trembath is our Pupil Premium Champion. If you need to contact our Pupil Premium Champion, please email Mrs Trembath using the following email address: inclusion@lairagreen.plymouth.sch.uk
